Feeding your face? Yup, you heard that right. Certain foods used can really improve your skin. Different kinds of food you have in your dorm room/apartment can be used on your face! You can use cheap products (can be found on my blog, Cheap And Actually Effective Skin Care Products that Worked for Me), but food works, too. If that’s not the cheapest alternative to having a clear face, I don’t know what is. If you don’t want a certain food in your pantry/kitchen anymore, use it on your face (if it’s the one I recommend). Look at which foods I have used to improve your acne!
Look at that! You have a face wash, toner, face-mask, exfoliator scrub, dark spot remover, and spot treatment all from food. Who would’ve thought food could be used on your face! Although these are great alternatives to actual acne products, alternating with food-products with actual acne products would be most beneficial. I would love to hear your results! Let me know how this works for you right here.

I always suffered from acne when I was in middle school and high school. I was desperate, so my mom agreed to pay for products that the lady at Ulta suggested. Of course the lady suggested the expensive stuff, when she easily could’ve recommended the cheaper products. Such a deceiving lady. I used the Murad skin care line and obviously, the lady suggested so many products, too. The lady told my mom I should use the Murad cleanser, moisturizer, mask, some sort of toner, and a spot treatment. She was helping her sales, not my face. Everything all together must’ve been over $100, which is so expensive! But, I still continued to use it.
When I got to college, my skin was going INSANE. It was my college lifestyle that affected my skin and the expensive stuff still wasn’t helping my face. I was broke, stressed, and I couldn’t handle my face anymore. I did some small changes that helped my face (look at my blog post, Skin Care: For the Impossible College Lifestyle, for these tips), and I also opted for cheaper products. Here are some products I have been using that are just as good as expensive ones. Saving your bank account and saving your face is my goal.
These 7 products all together cost $41-$46! Definitely a good steal! If I had these 7 products with expensive brands, it would cost me about $100 or more (that estimated price is me being generous). These cheap and effective products worked for me and I hope they work for you also. A lot of these products last for a couple of months, too. If you are struggling with acne, don’t be discouraged. If my skin got better, so can yours!

The college lifestyle is a lot to handle. The excessive drinking, all-nighters, eating endless amounts of junk food, and having so much stress. These are just the FEW things college students deal with and it can really put a damper on your skin. Just a couple changes in your lifestyle can make a difference. Yes, I know college students are lazy, so there are even some things you can do if you don’t really want to do, but are a lot easier to do.
1. ALWAYS wash your face at night
Regardless if you come back drunk after a long night of partying or you’re just lazy after having hanging out with friends, make sure to wash all those layers of makeup off. Even if you don’t wear makeup, you must wash your face anyway. Lazy Solution: Keep makeup wipes by your nightstand before you go out.
2. Wash your pillowcases every week.
We know you didn’t wash your face after going out on Friday… and maybe Saturday too. Make sure to wash those makeup covered, bacteria infested pillowcases. Lazy Solution: Have a couple of spare pillowcases instead of washing the same one all the time
3. Don’t binge eat, especially unhealthy food.
Your body can’t handle when you eat too much food and it affects your skin. Try to lock up all the bad food you own. Replace the binge eating by chewing on ice or eating fruit. You will get fuller faster. Lazy Solution: Take a nap so you can’t eat excessive amounts of food
4. Wipe off your cellphone
Think about all the grime when dropping your phone on that dirty frat floor or touching your phone after eating those oily French fries. Then, holding all that against your face when you make a phone call. Clean it with an alcohol wipe so it’s squeaky clean (and no, not the alcohol you drink). Lazy Solution: You can use headphones, so your phone doesn't touch your face.
5. Don’t rest your hand on your face when sitting down
Yes, we know a 1 hour and 15 minute lecture can be extremely long and boring so you feel like you need to hold your head that feels like 1,000 pounds. But, don’t touch your chin or face with your hands! You are literally putting pimples on your face. Lazy Solution: Lay your head down in class if you can get away with it :P
6. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise
Who the hell wants to work out when you gained weight and don’t have the same energy anymore?? Well, you will get more energy if you keep working out AND you will get a clearer face too. Sweating when working out will remove all those bad toxins. You will sweat out all that alcohol you drank all weekend and some of that unhealthy food you ate. Your face will glow! Lazy Solution: Go to a sauna and sweat everything out. You literally just sit there and don't move. It's perfect!
7. Just take a breath and relax
College student=stress. We all know that. But take a break. Your face is begging you! When you are stressed, your hormones go crazy and it causes you to get more pimples. Go take that yoga class you always wished you had time for. Go grab your headphones and listen to some music. Do whatever it takes to take a break and chill for a bit. Lazy Solution: Stop what you’re doing and just take a nap. Life is too short to skip your daily nap. Just do nothing at all.
8. Drink more water!!
No, don’t say you forget to drink water. I bet you don’t forget to chug alcohol, right? Drinking water hydrates your skin and also gets rid of the impurities in your body. You are feeding your body if you drink more water. Your skin will thank you. Bring water bottles to class, drink out of a straw, add some flavor in your drink with lemons, etc. Lazy Solution: Play water pong with your friends instead of chugging beer. You are having fun and clearing your skin. It’s a win-win!
9. Go to bed earlier.
Beauty sleep is no joke. When you are sleep deprived, your skin looks dull and lifeless. If you get a good nights rest (about 8-9 hours of sleep, not 4), then your skin will look vibrant and alive. If you have trouble going to sleep, maybe shut your lights off earlier and keep a lamp on. Your body will think it’s time to sleep soon. Those all nighters are not worth it! Lazy Solution: Don't do the homework ;)
10. Know the causes of acne in certain locations of your face.
Did you know that pimples between your eyebrows mean you are drinking too much alcohol? Or pimples on cheeks mean you are overeating and also eating too much sugar? Even an irregular sleep schedule and stress mean pimples on your forehead? Well, just a few simple changes can limit the pimples you get in certain places on your face. Click here to learn more about the acne causes based on the location of your face. This way you can prevent and treat your acne from the root of the cause. Lazy Solution: If you don’t know the causes of certain places, just limit alcohol, Ramen noodles, and the amount of all nighters you do because that’s what all college students do right?
